BIOGRAPHY

Émilie is a Quebecois artist born in 1987 in the Capitale-Nationale region. Passionate about arts and colors from a young age, she was introduced to painting by her mother, who is also an artist, and gave her her first brushes when she was still a child. Émilie began to take her artistic endeavors more seriously in 2020, during the pandemic, a period during which the confinement allowed her to fully dedicate herself to her artistic aspirations.

Endowed with an innate creative sense, Émilie initially worked as a makeup artist in the beauty industry for 17 years. Additionally, she holds a graphic design degree obtained after her secondary education, although she never pursued this profession professionally. The confinement served as a springboard for Émilie, enabling her to reveal and develop her talent as a painter.

After a prolonged break from her studies, Émilie decided in 2023 to enhance her skills and enrich her professional background by enrolling in the Visual Arts program at Université Laval. She is pursuing her studies part-time while fully dedicating herself to her artistic practice full-time, thereby demonstrating constant evolution in her career.

ARTISTIC APPROACH

Émilie works on her paintings in successive layers. She paints with acrylics, blending techniques such as dripping, knife work, brushwork, and airbrush in her art. She enjoys working with epoxy resin and uses vintage Swarovski crystals, which are recycled Swarovski crystals imported from Europe.

Her first love is undoubtedly the abstract expressionist style, and she is also fascinated by the Automatistes movement. In 2022, she experienced an artistic turning point that led her to a change in style, incorporating her love for the abstract and her fascination with the human being. Her current style leans more towards a hybrid of realism and pop art. The artist is in constant evolution and does not want to limit herself. Gosselin seeks to represent the complexity of the human being and the constant struggle between individuality and social pressure. She often portrays taboo emotions such as anxiety, sadness, and depression, but also hope, dreams, and strength.
